Innovation Highlights_____________

 Transparent concrete

The Hungarian architect Áron Losonczi invented LiTraCon© - the first light transmitting concrete. LiTraCon© is a concrete stone-block that turns out to be light conducting through its embedded glassfibers. From one side to the other light passes the stone without any significant loss and illuminates the darker side of the stone. Shadows are transmitted and shown in precise shapes on the opposite surface.

Trend: Increasing transparency
Increasing transparency improves ease of inspection and saves energy. With this kind of concrete you will gain light inside the building and you will need less artificial light which results in less costs.

 Splashpower wireless charging

Now that we’ve got Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the next wire that has to go must be the charger’s. Two Cambridge University engineering graduates have created Splashpower, a wireless charging solution. Working by means of electromagnetic induction technology, this consists of the SplashPad, a charging platform about the size of a mousepad, and SplashModules, extremely thin, barely visible power receivers that are attached to compatible devices. You can charge several devices simultaneously simply by placing them on the SplashPad. According to the inventors, charging speeds are the same as those of traditional plug-in chargers, even if there are a number of devices being recharged at the same time.

Trend: Connection
A lot of electronic products have become wireless in the last 10 years. E.g. wireless keyboard and mouse, cellphone, remote, internet connection. More mobile products means more different chargers. With this wireless charger you only need one system.

 Mitsubishi’s pocketprojector

Maybe barely pocketable if you’re rocking the XXXL cargo pants, Mitsubishi just announced the PocketProjector, a tiny DLP projector that weighs just 14 ounces and has a resolution of 800x600 (which is plenty good for all your non-high def needs). Should be out in July with a retail price of $699.

Trend: Macro to nano
Producers of all kinds of products are making their products smaller and smaller. You can notice the differences in the evolution of electronic devices over the years. Among the benefits we find increased portability and lower weight.

 Corner Shot

Corner Shot is a new weapon system designed for urban combat which enables the user to observe and engage a target from behind a corner without exposing any body parts. The highly technological system is already being used by some of the world's elite Special Forces. It includes a small, high-resolution camera and monitor, which can observe and view a target from various vantage points.

Trend: Dynamization
The dynamization trend is certainly one the most popular ones. Many products evolve from immobile, over jointed to complete flexibility. You can measure with a ruler, a folding ruler or a tape ruler. You can cut with a knife, use scissors or apply wire cutting. Even busses added a joint to have larger, still manoeuvrable city busses. Car manufacturers are even exploring the jointed car! This car is compact within the city and offers more comfort at full length on highways.

Please do not hesitate to send us a great innovation you have spotted. We might include it in our next month issue.

The next two days seminar on the CREAX Systematic Innovation Methodology takes place on the 27th and 28th of April at the CREAX HQ’s in Belgium. Please find more details on: www.creax.com/events.asp

Tiense Suiker meets Douwe Egberts through CREAX
Recently Tiense Suiker and Douwe Egberts have launched their very successful Momenti flavoured sugars. The concept results from a CREAX Innovation Study, executed for Tiense Suiker, the Belgian leading sugar manufacturer. For the final development of the product, CREAX and Tiense Suiker chose Douwe Egberts out of the CREAX clients network for the co-development of the Momenti taste sugar cubes. Their sugars come in 4 different flavours: Amaretto, Chocolate, Irish Cream and Praline and allow you to customize your coffee to your desired taste without having to brew different pots of coffee.
