Innovation Highlights_____________
Hand soap plus air freshener
The demand for odor control service utilizing air freshener dispensers is well established. Facility managers spend literally thousands of dollars each year on odor control products. Zest Two-in-One dispenser holds a liquid hand soap and an air freshener , that releases air freshener.

Trend: Mony-bi-poly increasing differences
If your product or packaging is now a single system, can you consider adding one or more other systems. Advantages are that you increase system functionality, increase operability, increase user convenience, reduce packaging, synergy effects, reduce number of systems and reduce net system size. Zest avoids the need of a second seperate system by combining the two into one.

Ladders are useful in a myriad of places though they are clumsy difficult items to store and carry. Accordingly, we think the Xtend & Climb telescoping ladder is a very simple, very good idea. It compacts and stores in a bag that is a very manageable and then miraculously transforms to a stable 3.8 metre tall ladder with a duty rating 100 kilograms. Because the Xtend & Climb ladder opens and locks by the foot, you only need to open as many steps as you need. The ladder locks into place at exactly the height it needs to reach and can be opened from the top or bottom. The ladder is constructed from aircraft-quality aluminium. Non-slip bevelled end caps provide a stable surface while leaned to either side.

Trend: Space Segmentation
In this trend you can see that there are advantages to be gained when moving from Solid to Hollow to Multiple Hollows. These advantages include: less material requires, decreasing weight, space to put something in, hole to hang your product from, more surface area, better heat transfer, and far more. "Space Segmentation" also allows us to put one or several object(s) or system(s) inside another. Examples are easy to find for this nested-doll –principle: a safe inside a wall or under floorboards, stackable chairs, retractable power-lead in vacuum cleaner and the telescopic ladder.

If we can’t have longer-lived batteries, Toshiba’s new Super Charge cells may be the next best thing. The company claims the new cell charge to 80 percent of its capacity in just 60 seconds and cap top out in just “a few minutes more.” Not only that, but after 1000 charge cycles, the lithium-ion cell loses only 1 percent of its charging capacity. Two of these cells and a nearby power outlet and you’ll be able to stay mobile indefinitely. Toshiba's miracle battery will come to market next year, the company said, initially in automotive and industrial applications. However, there's a clear benefit for mobile devices. Toshiba's prototype 600mAh cell, for example, was clearly developed with compact gadgets in mind: it measures 6.2 x 3.5 x 0.4cm.

Trend: Macro to Nano in time
We live in a world where we have more and more things to do and increasinly less time to do those things in. Products and services that are faster can deliver a singnificant competitive advantages. Potential benefits include more effective use of resources, improving system efficiency and reducing overall time losses. This 60-second charge battery from Toshiba uses principle "Hurry" to eliminate such harmful side-effects by performing it function at extremely high speed.

DSM, who is active in the chemical industry, has succeeded to develop clear, transparent milk. The liquid looks and tastes a lot like water, but it contains the nutrients that are present in milk. Scientists have added some enzymes to milk through which the white colour disappears. The clear milk that arises from this treatment could be used as base for soft drinks. Seeing that children don’t consider milk as sturdy, this way parents can make sure that their children drink enough milk.

Trend: Increasing transperancy
Milk is a typical opaque product. A lot of milk products have an innovative that’s fully or partially transparent packaging. Packaging that’s transparent has multiple advantages, other than a better aesthetic appearance, e.g.: increased natural illumination, saving energy, increased visibility for safety-ease of inspection, aesthetic appeal. Imagine how you kids would react if you could now offer them transparent milk or any other transparent diary product.

This month we selected the submission of Kristof Roelstraete from Picanol.
This circular-type portable concept printer responds to a real need for business travellers and challenges engineers to make it a reality. Using rotational, instead of linear, movement to obtain a truly portable design, printer size is reduced by one-third. The printer is light and compact. The design looks very slim, rounded lines impart an image of durability and portability.

Trend: Geometric evolution of linear constructions
Geometric improvement of your product is another important innovator. Changing the shape of it to a line or curve, will improve compatibility with ‘real world' effects. It gives the printer a better aesthetic appearance, it improves ergonomics, improves surface area and adds new functions to printer. Other examples of the geometric evolution trend are: paper binders, windscreens for cars and CAD systems.
